Eastbourne Bonfire Possesion and Fireworks is an event not too be missed. Bonfire Societies from across East Sussex come together combining colour, noise and lots of fun. The modern day Sussex Bonfire Societies trace their origins back to the 16th century martyrs and the 17th century Gunpowder Plot. The original Eastbourne Bonfire Society formed in 1855, and through the years societies came and went. It wasn't until 2001, when a group of residents and bonfire enthusiasts, supported by the then Duke of Devonshire as Society President, and with Cannon Charles Lansdale as Chaplain, set out to rekindle some of the old traditions and todays celebrations were formed.
The torchlight procession makes it's way from the pier and then along the seafront, congregating across from the hotel on the Wishtower Slopes where the most amazing fireworks display takes place.
