Summer Ladies Luncheon

Monday 11th Jul 2022 - 12.00pm
£40.00 per person

We are delighted to invite you to our Summer Ladies Luncheon, as we enjoy fine food, great company and a guest speaker, Alan Wenham.

The friendly gathering will begin with a drinks reception on arrival at 12.00 midday, followed by a delicious three-course set lunch with a glass of wine per person, after which we shall enjoy the presentation by our guest speaker. Come with friends or come by yourself and enjoy this sociable event, making new friends and acquaintances.

Alan's tale will focus on four astonishing local women...

Mary Ann Gilbert. The lady of Gildredge Manor who did so much to alleviate the plight of local agricultural workers. She became known as the mother of the allotment movement nationally.

Lady Victoria Wellesley. The great niece of the Duke of Wellington, she came from a privileged background. She funded the All Souls church in Susan's Road and developed it as an all-purpose social and welfare centre. It was revolutionary for its time.

Lady Emily Shackleton. While it was a constant struggle to sort out her famous husband's finances, she found time to undertake many good works locally and was a leading light in the new Girl Guides movement.

Alice Hudson. The first woman mayor of Eastbourne - and one of its best. She was a brilliant organiser and served the town well in the second world war and after.

Please email your interest or any enquiries to our co-ordinator for this event, Tracy at or call 01323 412345.

We look forward to welcoming you.
