Lady Taverners Summer Lunch

Posted 24th July 2013

On Wednesday 19th June the Grand played host to the 11th Lady Taverners Kent & East Sussex Summer Luncheon.  This all sounds very sedate doesn't it!.... Not quite so!  180 girls descended on the hotel (with just a hint of a couple of rather brave men) for their annual lunch, entertainment and fund raising.

It has become the tradition to start proceedings off with a sparkling reception on the putting green, and even though our summer started some what late this year, once again we had glorious sunshine!  The girls are convinced the hotel puts in a special order!

This year's theme was a 'Traditional British Seaside' and so we had an Aunt Sally for picture taking, buckets, spades, rock and windmills as table centre pieces and the entertainment just had to be bingo didn't it!  Lunch was posh fish and chips (Grand style) followed by Coconut Shy ice cream.

Laura Collins, chairman of the Kent and East Sussex Region welcomed all and reminded us  that the focus of the day was to raise money whilst having fun..... both were acheived!  In total just over £4000.00 was passed to the Lady Taverners after the event, an amazing effort as usual.  The fun side I don't think was ever in doubt!

Chris Ellison (he of The Bill fame) was one of the guest of honours and graciously agreed to the many photo requests, actually he thoroughly enjoyed it and has put himself down for next year!

The one last tradition of the day was also observed.  This being once lunch and games are finished it's back outside on the putting green to soak up the last of the sunshine and a good old chin wag with friends old and new.  It is always so lovely to look around and see so many happy faces and hear rather loud laughter.

A couple of thank yous are in order I feel.  As I said most of the tables are now well established and book year on year, for which we are so grateful for their continued support.  Thanks to Eastbourne based wine merchants HT White & Co who support the sponsorship of the Reception.  Many local businesses also donated some amazing raffle prizes for the day.  Of course we must also mention our friends on Facebook and Twitter who posted notes and photos throughout the day!

So with the sun setting in Eastbourne it was time to wish everyone a happy summer and see you again next year.... Date by the way is 18th June!

Couple of photos for you but more are available on our facebook page in albums
