World Ocean Day in Eastbourne

This week we are celebrating World Ocean Day! The annual celebration is on 8th June, and we couldn't miss being a part of a day that brings awareness to the beauty and protection of our seas. Being located right on Eastbourne’s seafront, both our guests and team are fortunate enough to spend their time by the ocean, and keeping it protected is important to us.

World Ocean Day began in 1992, in Rio de Janeiro, and has since grown into a global celebration. Its mission is simple but vital: to unite people worldwide in safeguarding our oceans for future generations. From protecting marine biodiversity to reducing plastic waste, this day reminds us of the critical role the ocean plays in sustaining life on Earth.

To mark the occasion, we are hosting a Community Beach Clean this Friday 6th June, helping prepare the shore for the many visitors expected over the weekend. The event will run from 11am until 2pm, and we warmly invite both locals and guests to join us. Participation is complimentary, and all equipment will be provided, just bring your enthusiasm and a love for the sea!

The Grand Hotel has a proud history of supporting sustainability and frequently works with corporate clients to organise beach cleans and eco-conscious events. These sessions offer a meaningful way for teams to bond while making a real difference to the local environment. We ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all involved.

Whether you're visiting Eastbourne or are a proud local, World Ocean Day is a chance to reflect on the role we all play in protecting our coastal treasures. We hope to see many of you at our beach clean this Friday - together, we can help keep Eastbourne’s seafront as beautiful as ever.

Let’s protect what we love. Happy World Ocean Day!
